September 22nd

Today starts Day 8 of a great trip down the West Coast of Oregon.  This morning we are doing something that Cyndy & I did over 30 years ago.  We head down 101 towards Frontier Sand Dunes for our ride out into the Dunes on a Bus with very big tires.  It brought back some great memories that we have of our first time out on the dunes.  I can still remember telling Cyndy that we will be back here next year with three wheeler's and playing out here in the dunes.  That next year and for over 15 following years we did these same dunes every year from a 10 day vacation to long weekends here playing in the sand.
Well here is what we got to see today.

 We filled up two buses and looking for a fun trip.

Some look like what did we get our selves into this time. I have never seen one of these role over or get stuck in the sand.

 Here we go after a short trip through the tres out into the sand dunes.

Hang on we are going down a hill!!!  If you look through the bars and see those two little dark spots.  THat is a set of Quads playing in the dunes.

 This is the group we rode with, they all look like they are having fun.

 These trees are slowing getting covered over with sand, they are at least 60 feet high before the sand stated covering them up.

 We didn't see a lot of people out riding today, it is the middle of the week and we did see a sand rail come up and over this hill.

 Say hello th the other half of our group, that we have been following.  The drivers are brothers and the one we had said he was just following his brother  because he drew the short straw today.

 We stopped and everyone got to get out and take some pictures and see how fine this sand really is.  

We had a great 45 minute ride and it was fun, but I would of rather been out here in the RZR.  When this trip is over we are heading to the Desert for some riding time.  After the trip to day our guest headed out to see Old Town Florence, and exploring other areas around here, so much to see in a little bit of time.  Tomorrow we head out to Coos Bay.

September 21

Day 7 was a trip to Heceta Head Lighthouse, after a morning of coffee we were off to the Light House at 9:45.  We had a appointment at 10:15 for our walk up to the light house.

We are heading up the trail towards the light house.  It is about a half mile walk.

 What a great group of people we are with, they are enjoying the view from up here.

This group just got done with their tour of the light house, we went in next and it was very informative to learn how each light house has its on signal from a 10 second delay to up to a minute.  Some have different color lights and even a different paint scheme.  This helped the ship navigator no where they are located on the coast.

We were not able to go up into the light house because they were doing a constructional test of the stairway before they open it up again, it looks sound to me.

  We had a great morning and everyone went different way now, some went to the Sea Lions Caves and others went exploring the town of Florence.

 I have always like taking pictures of the surf breaking on the rocks,  During the winter you can get some great pictures.

 There is also a lot of tidal pools along the coast.

We finished the day by going to the Three Rivers Casino for a great Buffet.  The food was great and we even got a senior discount, which made it even better.

September 20th

We have been pretty busy the last two days so here goes with what happened on Day 5 of our trip.
We started of with a short walk to the Oregon Coast Aquarium, it was about 2 blocks from the park so this made it easy for ride sharing.

We got here at 10:00 AM and the line was way out to the parking lot, Jim & Cherrill went inside and next thing we know we are all walking in and seeing what is here.

 There are a lot of displays here and the camera was not working very good so only got a few pictures.  I would recommend this place for any family to enjoy.

 There are a lot of different displays here we really enjoyed it.

 Even got to see a Puffin.

The weather was great and we got to watch them feed the Seals, and Otters.
At 1:00 PM we headed over to the Hatfield Marine Science Center.

This was a neat little Science Center, there were a lot of displays and things that you could interact with.

 As you can see Jeff is waiting for his turn at this display.

 We were waiting for a talk and guess what, the computer would not work right so after 20 minutes we found out the guy could not do his talk.

Jeff was enjoying the time and got 20 winks.
Today we head out  to Florence, OR it was a long drive day.  The wagon-master left at 10:00 and we headed out at 11:00 AM, everyone was out of the park by 11:00 AM.  It was a long 48 mile drive through some of the best roads here on 101, there are a lot more to come and we are looking forward to the drives down the coast.  Tomorrow we are heading back up towards Heceta Head Lighthouse and then on to the Seal Lions Caves.

September 18

What a beautiful morning, the sun came up and the weather is great.  We had coffee this morning for everyone.  Then about 10:00 AM we headed off towards Yaquina Head Lighthouse & Visitors Center.  We could not have a better day to visit the light house.  Here are a few pictures of our great morning exploring the light house.

Everyone had a great morning exploring this area.  We headed out for lunch at the Hallmark Resort for and outstanding lunch, it was a 1/2 lb of Angus ground, green salad, potato salad, and mac & cheese.  After all of that we had a great dessert of a strawberry shortcake was the best I had ever had.
Now it was time to let everyone go explore Newport.
