Historic Eastern Seaboard Day 18

Today was a trip of a lifetime dream.  We left this morning and headed to Arlington National Cemetery.  We arrived at the National Cemetery after a nice drive through Washingtons great traffic, again I am glad we are on a bus and don't have to worry about anything.  We all boarded one of the trolly's that travel throughout the Cemetery and a specific route.  We can get on and off at each of the three stops.
There are over 350,000 burials here, and during the week they have up to 25 burials a day.

Our first stop was President John F. Kennedy plot.

Our next stop was the Tomb of Unknown Soldiers
While we were here today, we were very lucky to be able to see a Dignitary from Tunisia in Africa.  This was a great thing to see.

The 4 branchs of the service marched up the stairs, it made you feel proud to be an America.

The flowers be brought out for him to put at the Unknown Soldiers Memorial.

Our tour guide said she has only seen this happen once before in all the times she doing this tour.  We waited for the changing of the guards, which was just as impressive.

Sargent of Honor guards comes out to change guards.

New Guard shows up for inspection.

Every hour on the hour the changing of the Guards is done, rain, snow, or sunshine.  We were lucky today with sunshine.
This is the Tomb of the Unknow Civil War Soldiers
There are 4 corner post with these Eagles guarding the gates to the Cemetery.
The Iwo Jima Memorial
Our next stop was Mt. Vernon Tour.
This was Washington's home at Mt. Vernon, we were not able to take any pictures inside the house.  They had the set up just like Washington had it in the 1780's.
The kitchen.

Cold storage.
This is the front of the house looking out at the river.

George Washington married Martha, you have to remember that George never had kids.  These 2 kids were from Martha's first marrage.
